In 2024, the U.S. EPA, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank and in support of the aims of the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) Biogas Subcommittee, hosted a four-part training series: Best Practices on Landfill and Organic Waste Management. During the first virtual training on 28 October 2024, Methane and Landfills, speakers provided an overview of methane emissions from the waste sector, focusing on key sources such as dumpsites and landfills. Participants learned about the challenges of dumpsite closure, strategies for the successful implementation of landfill gas capture in sanitary landfills, and best practices for operating and maintaining landfills and landfill gas facilities.
