Côte d'Ivoire has made significant progress in addressing methane emissions as part of its comprehensive climate strategies. Through national and international commitments, the country is actively working to reduce methane output by enhancing waste management, promoting sustainable agriculture, and increasing the use of biogas. Côte d'Ivoire’s National Short-Lived Climate Pollution (SLCP) Action Plan outlines ambitious mitigation goals, targeting a 34% reduction in methane emissions by 2030. These efforts, along with participation in international initiatives, demonstrate Côte d'Ivoire’s commitment to addressing methane emissions and aligning its strategies with global climate goals.
Cote d’Ivoire is currently active on the Biogas Subcommittee and the Oil & Gas Subcommittee.

According to Côte d’Ivoire’s National SLCP Action Plan, methane emissions were 514 kilotons (kt) in 2010 and are projected to rise steadily across several sectors through 2040, with agriculture, waste, and oil and natural gas exploitation contributing significantly to the increase.
