Project Implementation and Demonstration/Pilot Projects3Diverted about 1600+ kgs of fresh offcuts yet landfill destined textile waste category in my city Chennai, India. About 40% is the natural fibre. Explored possibility of At Source Segregation, and upto conversion - eliminating the need for third party collection, sorting and conversion - but progress has been at snail pace due to systemic challenges. Currently, experimenting the near-source conversion model - work is in progress Mapping Stakeholders, and designing the needed ecosystem that will help gobble up the waste in a participatory manner. Identified issues with the existing disposal mechanisms of landfilling ( actually dumping in sites ), incineration for Waste to energy or by RDF, or downcycling.
