Trade Plus Aid (TPA), specialises in designing and implementing sustainable development programmes in Southern Africa The long term objective of the biogas programme is to install domestic household biogas digesters in rural areas to mitigate the use of non-renewable woody biomass. This biogas programme will make use of the Clean Development Mechanism to provide the necessary investment to implement the programme.
TPA will be installing covered in-ground waste management lagoons at existing swine farms throughout South Africa, where methane gas emitted from the swine waste in the lagoon is used to generate renewable electricity for use on the farm. The verified emission reduction-related carbon credits, will provide the funding required for the installation of the covered lagoons at the swine farms, and the further roll-out of the rural domestic household biogas programme. |
