The main theme of the ISWA/NVRD World Congress 2007 was "challenging the future", a theme that relates to the challenge of solid waste management. This theme covers probably the most crucial issues for the coming decades: City Management and Global Climate Control. The conferences had both national and international speakers in both plenary and parallel sessions. On the last day there were technical tours, which included different tours to waste collection and recycling facilities, composting, and waste-to-energy plants and to sanitary landfills. The U.S. EPA was represented at this conference.
