Travel and Visa Information

Visa Requirements for Entry into India:

Nationals of Nepal and Bhutan do not require a visa to enter India. Nationals of Maldives who are staying in India less than 90 days also do not require a visa for entry into India. All other nationals require a visa to travel to India.

Nationals of Afghanistan, Argentina, Bangladesh, DPRK (North Korea), Jamaica, Maldives, Mauritius, Mongolia, South Africa and Uruguay are granted visas free-of-charge under bilateral agreements. Visa fees for other nationals vary by country and embassy/consulate.

Citizens of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka have special requirements. Please consult your local Indian Embassy or Consulate for details.

Applicants from certain countries may need to provide additional documentation when applying for a visa. Following are special requirements for nationals of countries that are official partners in the Methane to Markets Partnership that are applying for a tourist visa.

Argentina: Proof of yellow fever vaccination must be submitted, along with projected travel dates in India.
Australia: No special requirements
Brazil: International Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate
Bulgaria: Air tickets for onward and backward journey
Canada: No special requirements
Chile: No special requirements
China: Tourist Visa may be issued on presentation of a confirmed return air-ticket and proof of bank deposit of RMB 10,000.
Colombia: Yellow fever certificate
Dominican Republic: Photocopies of airline ticket and hotel booking
Ecuador: Yellow fever certificate
Finland: No special requirements
Georgia: No special requirements
Germany: No special requirements
Italy: No special requirements
Japan: Documentary evidence that applicant is in a position to finance his/her stay in India may be required at the discretion of Embassy of India, Tokyo.
Kazakhstan: Letter of employment from employers (stating since when working in Kazakhstan, profession, etc.)
Mexico: Proof of financial solvency and confirmed return tickets may be required.
Mongolia: No special requirements.
Nigeria: Return air ticket; yellow fever certificate; bank statement for last three months (the statement should be certificate by the bank and must indicate the name of the officer, full address and telephone/fax numbers); a separate letter giving full details of previous visits to India, including periods of stay; a CV/bio-data; and a separate letter which gives your present occupation and detailed purpose of your intended visit to India.
Pakistan: Citizens of Pakistan are required to fill out special forms. Please consult the Indian Consulate/Embassy for more information.
Philippines: Return ticket or airline computer printout with ticket numbers
Poland: Proof of return ticket
Republic of Korea (South Korea): No special requirements
Russian Federation: Proof of return air ticket or hotel booking must be submitted.
Thailand: No special requirements
Ukraine: No special requirements
United Kingdom: No special requirements
United States: Applicants must submit a photocopy with proof of residence/address that matches the address on the visa application exactly. Photocopy of state issued ID (Driver License or ID), or major utility bill (Water, Gas, Electric, Sewage) must be submitted.
Vietnam: No special requirements

Business Visa: For nationals traveling to India who require a Business Visa a letter of invitation will be required. Please fill out the visa invitation section of the registration page so we may issue the letter promptly. Please check with the nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate for further requirements.

Diplomatic Passports: For nationals traveling to India on a diplomatic passport a letter of invitation will be required. Please fill out the visa invitation section of the registration page so we may issue the letter promptly.
