In September 2018, Ms. Ryan was appointed as Associate Assistant Deputy Minister of the Environmental Protection Branch at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). Her responsibilities include greenhouse gas and air pollution regulations, oil and gas, transportation, electricity, environmental emergencies, as well as providing advice on plastics and waste. In Ms. Ryan’s previous role as Director General of the Energy and Transportation Directorate at ECCC, she provided policy advice and led the development and implementation of regulations and standards to reduce air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation, oil and gas, and electricity sectors in Canada. She has held a number of executive positions over the past 16 years with ECCC and Health Canada including: Executive Director Oil, Gas and Alternative Energy Division; Director Strategic Policy; and Director Risk Assessment Bureau for Consumer Product Safety. Prior to joining the Federal Government, Ms. Ryan spent 13 years with the Region of Ottawa-Carleton where she established the Sewer Use and Source Control Program and managed the region wastewater treatment facility. Ms. Ryan started her career at the Ministry of Environment of Ontario where she worked as an abatement officer, environmental planner and program manager.
