Colorado was the first state in the U.S.to adopt methane regulations for upstream oil and gas activities and to allow for approval of new or innovative methane detection technologies. Colorado is actively involved in collaborative, international efforts to develop evaluation methods and pathways to equivalency for new or innovative methane detection technologies. Colorado also has a robust optical gas imaging inspection program for upstream oil and gas facilities, which has been in place since 2013 and has completed almost 11,000 OGI camera inspections to date. Colorado has also been at the forefront of efforts to improve methane vapor capture & control efficiency for upstream oil and gas atmospheric storage tanks.
