PTT is a petroleum and petrochemical company based in Thailand. By taking a number of methane mitigation actions, PTT aims to achieve a 20% reduction from 2012 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. This reduction target aligns with Thailand’s Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC). PTT is a partner of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) and has taken voluntary actions to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector
PTT collaborated with the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) to conduct a pilot methane survey in 2013 and 2015 at compressor stations and onshore and offshore oil and gas production facilities. Based on the experience gained from the pilot methane survey, PTT established a Direct Inspection and Maintenance (DI&M) program in 2015. Using infrared cameras and acoustic detectors, PTT assesses leaks and then repairs or replaces equipment to mitigate methane emissions.
PTT has installed a variety of equipment aimed at reducing methane emissions, including:
PTT tracks methane emissions reductions by volume of fugitive emissions, vented emissions, and emissions from flaring activities. Based on GHG reductions through 2019, PTT is on track to achieve the 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emission reductions from 2012 business-as-usual scenario emissions by 2030. PTT consolidates emission data and discloses it annually in their PTT Sustainability Report which complies with the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) standard.
